- Can someone help me pin-point something in my system that might be
- causing these problems?
-
- Here are some specs on my system:
-
- - A3000/030/25MHz, 2MB CHIP RAM, 4MB Static Column FAST RAM,
- 8MB SupraRAM card (16-bit FAST RAM), soft-kicked, WB v2.1
- - Internal 100MB Quantum hard drive
- - Iomega Zip drive
- - NEC CDR-25 CD-ROM drive
- - Regular ECS chip set (none are latest version that I know of)
- - GVP IV-24 board
-
- Here are some programs I run in my Startup-Sequence:
-
- - xLoadSeg (allows system to recognize XPK-packed executables)
- - PPLoadSeg (" " PowerPacked executables)
- - SetMan
- - SaferPatches
- - SetPatch
- - BindNames (new way of handling ASSIGNs)
- - PathManager (easier way of setting of paths)
-
- Now, some programs I run in my User-Startup:
-
- - Stack 20000
- - SetAlert
- - Snap (for grabbing text and placing into clipboard)
- - fbl SLOW (for faster graphics routines)
- - Chop (press Alt-HELP to cut screen bitplanes to 2...speeds system)
- - AddMenu (lets you put items under Tools menu in Workbench screen)
- - Executive (supposed to handle multitasking better)
-
- Now, in WBStartup:
-
- - AddPower
- - DMABlanker (screen blanker, also turns off DMA for speedup)
- - DropIt! (places icon on WB for dropping files onto to execute)
- - GrabIFF (for grabbing screens or parts of a screen)
- - LastAlert2 (gives Guru info after a crash)
- - MagicMenu (pop-up menu at mouse pointer)
- - MFS (Multi-File System)
- - MouseBlanker (blanks mouse pointer after a set time)
- - NoteIt! (Notepad on WB for keeping notes)
- - PopFile (commodity - inserts path of file selected from requester)
- - Remind (commodity for keeping track of dates)
- - TinyClock (clock on WB screen)
- - WBExtender (I think this one gives system info in WB menubar)
- - WKSC (alters keyboard shortcuts for WB menu items)
- - xData (specifies progs that are to recognize XPK-packed files)
-
- So that's about it for my set-up...
-
- First of all, if you see a program here that I'm using that you know
- can cause problems, please let me know...
-
- Ok, here are some problems I've been having...
-
- - Once in a while when I start up VLTjr (term program) and I press the
- ALT key and '1' on the numeric keypad to bring up the phone book
- menu (I think this is an ARexx command that brings up the menu), my
- A3000 will Guru. Other times (even more rare) the lines that define
- the menu buttons will sometimes become dashes instead of solid lines.
- Are there problems with ARexx that might be causing this?
-
- - Sometimes after my A3000 has crashed (happened today when VLTjr
- crashed as described above) and I re-boot, LastAlert gives me the
- following info on the Guru...
-
- Alert Number: 0x8000000B
- Alert Task: 0x07c063A2
- Alert Name: ACPUG_LineF
- Spec. Alert: Hardware/CPU
- Spec. Error: Line 1111 Emulator error
-
- This is a strange one to me...I used to have an EMPLANT installed,
- but that's long gone now, and all the associated files with it.
- I used to think the EMPLANT was causing this, but since I took it out,
- well...and I don't have any other emulation software installed (like
- ShapeShifter, PC-Task, etc.).
-
- - Recently I've encountered a strange problem with graphics...it's hard
- to explain what I was doing at the time, and it has happened only a
- couple of times. It happened on the Workbench screen, and I think it
- occurred when I opened a window, or it might have been when a file
- requester appeared. Each row on the screen seemed to double, like
- between each row was placed a row of black. BTW my WB screen is
- 640x400 8-colour screen and viewed on a VGA monitor. It was like
- there was suddenly a problem viewing the interlaced screen.
- Funny thing too, when I activated a program called Lacer in my Tools
- drawer, the screen became normal again. What in the world would cause
- this?
-
- Well, that's about all I can think of right now for problems.
-
- If you can share any remedies, I'd really appreciate it.
-
- Thanks for reading.
